Wedge Wire Screens for Food and Beverage Processing

Food processing screens must be easy to clean, resistant to process chemicals, and manufactured from food-grade materials. The V-wire profile is self-cleaning by design: the widening slot releases trapped particles during backwash or CIP cycles, reducing downtime between production runs.

APPLICATIONS

Where Our Screens Work

Sugar Production

Screens for sugar-related applications in food processing contexts. For dedicated sugar mill and refinery solutions, see our Sugar Industry page.

Breweries

Cylindrical and flat screens for mash filtration, wort separation, and spent grain removal.

Starch and Dairy

Sieve bend screens for starch washing, fiber separation, and protein recovery. Rotary screens for dairy waste.

Fruit and Vegetable Processing

Flat and sieve bend screens for juice extraction and pulp separation.

Drying and Classification

Flat screens as support surfaces for drying and product classification.

MATERIALS

Materials for Food and Beverage

SS 304General food processing where welds and chloride exposure are minimal.
SS 304LStandard welded food processing equipment.
SS 316LSalt, acid, chlorinated cleaning.

Regulatory Compliance

FDA 21 CFR (food contact materials)
3-A Sanitary Standards (US dairy and food equipment)
EHEDG hygienic design guidelines
FAILURE MODES & MITIGATION

How Screens Fail — and How We Prevent It

Bacterial harborage in slot crevices

V-wire continuous-slot profile widens downstream — particles release during CIP and backwash rather than wedging. Resistance-welded crossovers eliminate the dead spaces found in mesh weaves.

CIP / SIP chemical attack

SS 316L baseline for caustic, peracid, and chlorinated CIP cycles. Smooth surface finish reduces deposit buildup between cycles.

Protein and fat fouling

Continuous slot geometry and high open area sustain flow even with high-solid streams. Backwash and reverse-flow cycles restore performance.

Stress corrosion in salt and acid lines

SS 316L upgrade for brining, pickling, and acidic juice lines where 304L would pit over time.
